Captain: Domingo
Divemaster / Instructor: Henry
Weather: Water a little rough from swirling winds, but bright and sunny
Water Temperature: 80 degrees – for a few minutes of dive one. Still, I’m going with it.
Dive One
Site: Yucab Reef
Max Depth: 50 feet
Dive Time: 50 minutes
Key Animals: Nurse Shark, Splendid Toadfish
Visibility: 100+ feet
Notes: As a new graduate looking for her first dives, Jenny chartered herself a private morning with me. I figured Yucab was a great welcome to Cozumel diving. Right away we drift over a 6 feet long nurse shark and Jenny seems unafraid – nice! The dive continues as I can show her the Cozumel favorite toadfish and generally just let her soak it up in. Upon surfacing she was all smiles – she’s hooked!
Dive Two
Site: Villa Blanca Wall
Max Depth: 60 feet
Dive Time: 46 minutes
Key Animals: Sargassum Triggerfish, Sharptail eel
Visibility: 100+ feet
Notes: I wanted to give Jenny a taste of a deep wall, so we pulled up at VB Wall. I love this wall at 60 feet… on one side of you is the abyss and on the other a rolling hills of various sponges and deep water gorgonians. Upon surfacing Jenny asks me about a night dive – folks, we a DIVER!
Sanopus splendidus, but more commonly know by the name of the Splendid Toadfish.
