What are the Top 3 Hostels in Cozumel?

We get many questions about Cozumel hostels, so this seems like a great chance to discuss what we find to be the Top 3 hostels in Cozumel. These are our personal picks based on many years’ experiences, and it should be noted we have no affiliation to an of these locations.

Arriving to Your Hostel in Cozumel

Getting to the hostel in Cozumel likely means you will be arriving from Playa del Carmen, or “Playa” as we refer to it locally. We have two ferry companies making the crossing between Playa and Cozumel. You can find their schedules on their respective Facebook pages Winjet or Ultramar but currently the earliest ferry departs Playa at 8am, and the last ferry departs Playa at 10pm.

Conveniently, there is a ferry departing hourly between the first and last ferries. We have provided a map overview of the ferry port area at this link. Please note if you are coming from the south – say Akumal, Tulum, or Bacalar, for example, your taxi will drop you off at the “alternate drop-off location.” Conversely, if you come from the north, be it Puerto Morelos or Cancun, your taxi will drop you at the “most likely drop off”. Finally, if you arrive by bus, the ADO bus station is marked on the image.

Ferry Tickets

Before heading to the hostels in Cozumel, there is no need to buy your ferry ticket online ahead of time. They have ticket booths at the ferry, so you can get the ticket for the company with the next departure at that time. That saves you the hassle of rushing to catch a ferry you have tickets for, or scheduling plans accordingly. Once you get off the ferry in Cozumel you have an easy to walk to any of the hostels, and basically the same walk back to our boats. The nice part about all three hostels is their convenient location in downtown. No matter where you stay you will have easy access by foot to food, entertainment, rental vehicles, and perhaps most importantly the Salty Endeavors’ boats! We provided a map at the bottom of this page for easy reference.

Amigos Hostel Cozumel

Our pick as the Best Hostel of Cozumel also happens to be the first ever hostel on the island – Amigos Hostel. Amigos has been a haven for backpackers for more than 20 years. This beautiful hostel in Cozumel is located 7 blocks away from the ocean front and takes around 15 minutes walk to reach from the island ferry pier. The hostel is located in the Cozumel Centro. The main reason we are so fond of this hostel is the expansive outdoor area. It has a beautiful outdoor pool surrounded by a garden interspersed with hammocks. There is a nice social lounge with a pool table, satellite TV and DVD player to meet fellow travelers, socialize or have a movie night. The rooms at this hostel have a colorful rustic decor. There are dorms with access to 3 shared bathrooms. Amigos Hostel Cozumel has a fully equipped kitchen and a covered smoking area with a BBQ. Away from the noise and din of the main street of Melgar, Amigos Hostel Cozumel is a great place to relax, breathe and meet other travelers before your next adventures in Mexico.
