What is the Best Cozumel Dive Resort?

Cozumel dive resorts and dive hotels are a popular option for many of our guests. Most of these dive resorts are large properties with sprawling beach fronts that provide gorgeous holidays views and easy-access swimming. These Cozumel dive hotels do differ by many considerations, and in this blog I’ll attempt to break it down for you.

But which of the many great choices of dive resorts is the best Cozumel dive hotel for you? That is not an easy question to directly answer, but hopefully after reading this blog you’ll have a much better understanding of what each Cozumel dive resort offers, and which dive resort is best for you. In fact most of the properties listed below are not in fact a dive resort at all. Many of the properties discussed below are actually Cozumel dive hotels. The qualifiers to make this blog mostly centered on oceanfront location. From there, I try my best to offer amenities as offered.

Salty Endeavors is happy to provide you with assistance on booking any of these properties. Feel free to ask us more details about any Cozumel dive resort or dive hotel!

What Are All the Cozumel Dive Resorts?

As I’m listing every dive resort or dive hotel of Cozumel in this list, and not wanting to list a “Top 10” or seem biased, I’ve decided the best way to present this list is geographically starting from the north and moving south. In case you are curious there are 28 properties listed here that I felt qualified as a dive hotel.

Cozumel oceanfront is also divided into several sections – namely the North Hotel Zone, Downtown, South Downtown, and South Hotel Zone. i present all information to the best of my knowledge. If you own, manage, or visit a property and care to make a correction, please do contact me with said corrections.

No matter what hotel you decide upon, we can get you to locations that look like this ~ Passion Island, Cozumel

Cozumel Dive Hotels of the North Hotel Zone

Typically, the Cozumel dive hotels in the north hotel zone are quiet, peaceful properties. The north side of Cozumel is very clean. It consists of a single road running north-south along the coast with all hotels along the coast line. All dive hotels in the north zone will have quick access to the Puerto Abrigo harbor, making it easy for you to dive with us. Beaches vary in the north. Most common are the beaches which are man-made with a retaining wall. This does allow for them to maintain a pristine beach. To the far north is a large, beautiful natural beach.

Food – No food available on location, though the nearest restaurant is a 2-3 minute walk down the waterfront.
Ocean Access – Sand beach with access via ladders provide easy swimming opportunities.
Snorkeling – Easily available. A small ledge dropping to 10 – 15 feet offers easy and good viewing opportunities.

Suites Turquesa

Coral Princess Golf & Dive Resort

Location – North of downtown by a few minutes, offering easy walking distance to our boat.

Focus – General family-friendly hotel property that advertises itself as a golf, scuba and spa resort.
Food – Several restaurants available but you’ll likely be heading into town for your best diving options.
Ocean Access – sand beach access allows for easy swimming.
Snorkeling – Available but overall not the best. Better than sitting in the office, though!
Scuba Access – This dive hotel is a short walk to our harbor. Beach diving is available for students.

Coral Princess

Playa Azul

Property – A rather small property overall, but well maintained.
Focus – General family-friendly hotel property that advertises itself as a golf, scuba and spa resort.
Food – Several restaurants available but you’ll likely be heading into town for your best dining options.
Ocean Access – Sand beach access allows for easy swimming. Free to the public and quite a nice, albeit small beach area. I do not believe they offer shore diving.
Snorkeling – Available but overall not the best. Better than sitting in the office, though! Many people swim north to the Buccannos area.
Access – Having no pier access available, all guests staying at Hotel Playa Azul will be required to taxi to our harbor. The taxi ride is less than 2 minutes.

Playa Azul

The Westin

Location – Not quite as far north as Hotel Melia and El Cozumeleno, but still a fair ways to the north.
Property – Not overly large. This is much more of a hotel style location than a full-fledged resort.
Focus – The Westin hotel chain is well developed and known internationally for being high-end hotel accommodations.
Food – A restaurant or two is on-site, but you will most likely want to head into the town of San Miguel for dining options.
Ocean Access – Easy. Most the property is limestone shoreline, but there is a small beach area offering walk-in swimming access. I do not think scuba from the beach is an option.
Snorkeling – Not so bad. The turtle seagrass of the north is mostly gone directly in front of this Cozumel hotel giving way to white sand bottoms and small coral patches.
Scuba Access – There is pier access and we can pick you up at your pier.

The Westin

El Cozumeleno Beach Resort

Location – Immediately south of Hotel Melia (meaning far to the north) and sharing the same beach.
Property – Very large. This might be the largest property of Cozumel based on room numbers.
Focus – Family-friendly beach resort catering to the average tourist.
Food – All-inclusive plan is available
Ocean Access – With its large beachfront area swimming is a few steps away.
Snorkeling – Not that good. Same as Hotel Melia where it is shallow turtle grass directly in front of the resort.
Scuba Access – We do require you to taxi to our harbor. The taxi ride to our harbor is less than 2 minutes. No beach diving available.

El Cozumeleno

Hotel Melia

Location – This is the furthest north resort of Cozumel. Motor transportation will be required to get to / from San Miguel (the city of Cozumel).
Property – Large oceanfront property with beautiful white sand beach.
Focus – The property is very near the Cozumel golf course and Hotel Melia advertises itself as a golf resort, although it seems to be enjoyed by a wide ranging mix of families.
Food – All-inclusive food plan.
Ocean Access – Large sand beach makes water access a breeze. Beach diving not available to my knowledge.
Snorkeling – Not impressive. The area in front of the resort is shallow for a long way out and almost entirely covered in turtle grass. There is not much to see out there.
Scuba Access -There is no pier on property so you are required to taxi to our harbor. There is no beach diving.

Hotel Melia

Cozumel Dive Resorts of the Downtown Hotel Zone

Downtown offers a ton of convenience. All the dining, shopping, and entertainment you desire is all within an easy walk around the area. As a bonus there is a public pier which we have access to meaning you are never more than a couple minutes walk to our pick up location for scuba. Sometimes this area can be loud or crowded with people, however. From live bands to morning boats getting tanks loaded onto them, not to mention street traffic; it is always loud in this area. It also lacks any beaches or snorkeling, minus Hotel Barracuda.

Suites Bahia

Location – Right in the center of downtown.
Property – A small hotel overall, directly across from a bar with live music on the weekends.
Focus – Comfortable, but basic accommodations for the budget minded travel but still wanting an ocean view.
Food – Breakfast included, but requires walking to Casa Mexicana about 1 minute away. Otherwise, surrounded by Cozumel restaurants.
Ocean Access – Not really. You could cross the street and jump in the ocean, but the area experiences heavy boat traffic and it would be ill-advised to swim here.
Snorkeling – No. You’ll need to transit somewhere to snorkel.
Scuba Access – We pick you up at a public pier located immediately in front of your hotel.

Suites Bahia

Hotel Vista del Mar

Location – Directly downtown.
Property – A rather small property overall, but well maintained. Slightly hard to find if you do not know where to look.
Focus – General tourist without much focus.
Food – They provide a breakfast croissant each morning. Otherwise you are surrounded by good restaurants.
Ocean Access – .Not readily available. Same as Suites Bahia.
Snorkeling – Same as Suites Bahia – not advised.
Scuba Access – Public pier in front of hotel makes it easy for us to pick you up!

Hotel Vista del Mar

Casa Mexicana

Location – Directly downtown.
Property – Modern and clean. Requires an escalator entry to the second floor lobby.
Focus – Welcome to all but the cost seems to attract Couples in the 40 and up crowd.
Food – Breakfast included with the room each morning. Otherwise you are surrounded by many restaurant options.
Ocean Access – Same as Suites Bahia – not readily available.
Snorkeling – Same as Suites Bahia – not recommended.
Scuba Access – A public pier immediately in front of the hotel property allows easy access for us to pick you up.
